West Yorkshire bobbies check-in to new airport home
12th March 2010
The security of staff and passengers at Leeds Bradford Airport was further assured this week as some of West Yorkshire’s finest moved into a brand new purpose-built on-site facility.
Leeds Bradford Airport’s Operations Director Carl Lapworth looked delighted as he cut the ribbon on the airport’s new dedicated police facility yesterday. Previously the airport’s 13-strong policing team were based at Otley police station and travelled to the airport each day to conduct their duties.
“The opening of this new centre is a massive step forward in the policing of the airport and will bring significant benefits to passengers, staff, businesses and local residents,” commented Inspector Adrian Barnes, “it also brings us in line with other regional airports that have an on-site police presence.”
The airport’s police team also plan to use the new facility to strengthen their links with the local community, offering open surgery sessions to members of the public every Friday between 12pm and 2pm.
It’s hoped that local people will take the opportunity to come and discuss any concerns they have about crime or antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood.
