Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) and airline partner, Flybe, became embroiled in a feisty on screen drama when ITV1's top rated soap, Emmerdale, filmed at the airport recently. The ITV1 crew filmed outside the terminal entrance, at Flybe's check in desk and also airside on board a Flybe Q400 aircraft. Staff and passengers became extras at the real life airport locations of this high flying soap which regularly receives audiences of 7 million. They say the path to true love never runs smooth and Val Pollard's (Charlie Hardwick) plan of tricking her husband Pollard (Christopher Chittell) into thinking she's set off to LBIA backfires when he decides to chase after his soulmate. Passengers looked on in amazement as character Val chased after her husband, Pollard as he boarded a Flybe flight to London Gatwick that would connect on to Australia. Val arrives at check-in but she's too late and is unable to get Pollard's attention as he walks through security. As the Flybe plane prepares for take-off he's stunned when Val takes the seat next to his. He's amazed at her scheming and demands to get off the plane immediately claiming he can't stand another minute next to her. But, as is the way with all such tumultuous relationships, will he realise that he just can't live without her? Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director of LBIA, said 'As Yorkshire's premier gateway we were delighted to play host to Yorkshire's flagship drama series, Emmerdale. It was a great day for both staff and passengers who were asked to become extras in the scenes. As the drama unfolded it created a real buzz in the terminal and we are all hoping that the airport will play host to the couple's reunion after their recent traumas!' Flybe's Chief Commercial Officer, Mike Rutter, added: 'As the UK's number one domestic airline, we were naturally very pleased to have been approached by one of the country's favourite soaps to play a leading role in this episode. Our London Gatwick flight provides excellent connections to the rest of the world and we were heartened to know that the storyline was able to demonstrate so well the added benefits of this popular service.'
