Jet.com offers pint sized prices with cheap flights to Prague

Fancy a pint? Then hop on a cheap flight to Prague, because next to your local free house, there’s no better place to find a good pint (or should that be litre?) of your favourite brew.

Czechs, it seems, are pretty fond of the ale as themselves, which explains the plethora of beer gardens in the country, particularly in Prague. And now it’s coming up for the Munich Oktoberfest, the rallying point for ale-lovers everywhere and, with cheap flights to Prague, that’s reason enough to start a stampede to the beer-drinkers’ Mecca..

In his article in the Chicago Sun Times about his recent visit to Prague, journalist Noah Lederman refers to the Czech capital as “the new Paris” – no doubt trying to divert his editor from the real reason for his trip. Needless to say, there is little mention in the article about new Paris fashions or new Paris patisserie. No. Mr Lederman cuts instead to the chase with an eloquent review of two favourite beer gardens – U Pinkasu and U Fleku.

In describing U Pinkasu, located near to Wenceslas Square, Noah makes a half decent fist of the fauna that clings to the adjacent church’s stone façade. Then he tells us something we really want to know – that “U Pinkasu was the first bar to serve the famous Pilsner Urquell.”

Then on to U Fleku where there’s enough room for 450 imbibers – better than the Hare and Hounds on a Saturday night! This venue is larger than U Pinkasu but more ‘romantic’, while “accordion players and other musicians play local tunes, while mixing in a few Western favorites like “Oh My Darlin’ Clementine.” Just like the Hare and Hounds!
