How to save money on your holidays
With many of us still feeling the pinch this year, it’s no surprise that customers of ours here at LCS Airport Parking Leeds are often asking us to find them new ways to travel for less.
With this in mind, we’ve put together the following money saving tips to help you and your family get away without breaking the bank this summer.
Prepare to compare
If you’re keen to be cautious with your cash, it may be worth investigating whether putting together your own package holiday could prove cheaper than buying a readymade one from a travel agent. There a whole range of websites out there which allow you to compare the routes and prices of every low budget airline, along with a whole myriad of hotel price comparison websites.
For a list of all low budget airline routes from your local airport, try www.low-cost-airline-guide.com, and for handy European hotel price comparison information, try www.trivago.com.
Go north
Hotel rates in the North of Europe have reportedly fallen by around 7% since this time last year, making Northern Europe a more cost effective holiday destination than before. With the poor exchange rate between the pound and the euro, typical Southern European destinations such as Spain and Portugal no longer offer the value they did previously either.
Watch your weight
With everyone from Ryanair to United Airways hitting the headlines for their new system of charging passengers for checking-in hold baggage, travelling light has never been more vital if you want to save money.
Current hand baggage restrictions at UK airports allow you to carry on items with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm - not an insignificant size if you’re frugal when it comes to packing. It may be worth investing what facilities are available in your hotel room at your destination too. This way you can save yourself the trouble of packing unnecessary bulky items such as towels and hairdryers.

Park it
Train, taxi and bus fares are likely to run into several figures for a typical family travelling to and from the nation’s regional airports. Single train fares from Huddersfield to nearby Manchester Airport start from an eye-watering £15.90 per person for example, and return fares on the Gatwick Express range from £25.80 to a colossal £43.80.
When you combine steep ticket prices with the additional hassle of hauling luggage on and off public transport, it’s easy to see why many families prefer to use airport parking which can start from as little as £25-£30 if booked in advance.
